Class 4 - Mr. Hume
September 2023
Welcome!
Welcome back to school Class 4! I hope you all had a fantastic holiday, I can't wait to hear about all of the things you got up to during the holidays! We will have loads of fun learning together this term. I am looking forward to seeing all your smiling faces walk into our classroom in August 2023!
We have a very busy term ahead of us as we continue to aim to provide a rich and varied experience for your children, and we will keep you all well informed of any activities taking place in school via the website and/or ParentMail. Please also see the calendar below, so you can keep important dates in your diary. I will try to keep these updated as much as possible.
Reminders:
Could I remind all parents to make sure that their child comes to school IN their PE kit on PE days (Thursday and Friday). All children also need to have a pair of indoor shoes/plimsoles to change into. Children will need a waterproof coat and wellingtons or other waterproof boots in wet weather, especially if they are playing on the field, as we will try to get outside as much as possible.
Please make sure ALL clothing and footwear is clearly labelled with your child's name.
Each child also needs a named drink bottle at school every day, as the water fountains cannot be used at the moment.
LOST PROPERTY
There is a significant amount (a black bag full) of lost property building up in the cloakroom. Can you please encourage your child to check through this and take home anything that belongs to them. I am also happy for parents to arrange a time to come in after school and check as well.
Homework:
Your child will receive regular homework. The homework will be linked to the work covered in school and is meant as a reinforcement and extension activity. Homework activities/suggestions can be found in the Homework Grid, where your child chooses an activity to complete for each of the hand in dates. There is also the option of completing additional activities to hand in as 'Going the Extra Mile' homework, but this is optional. Occasionally your child may also be asked to conduct research at home for a class project. There will also be weekly spellings, Times Tables and reading activities to complete. Feel free to support your child with this work, and I will endeavor to make the tasks as enjoyable as possible! The homework will also be set on Teams, and a copy can be found below for reference. Homework should be handed in on Mondays please.
Your child will be bringing reading books home to read at home only. You do not need to send these to school each day. If possible, we would like your child to read at least twice a week, either independently or to an adult, and for this to be recorded on the Go Read App. When you need new reading books, please return them to school and they will be replaced. Please remember to mark each book as complete on the Boom Reader App before returning it to school. Children are also able to log any reading they have done independently on their Boom Reader log, including books that they have at home.
There will be 10 focus spellings each week, adhering to the spelling patterns and rules within the National Curriculum, as well as High Frequency and Common Exception words. These will be practiced during class time. However, please encourage your child to practice their spellings using the Spelling Shed App. Spelling tests will be conducted each Friday to enable the monitoring of progress.
Children are also expected to complete Times Tables Rockstars activities each week as part of their homework. This is in preparation for the Multiplication Check that they will complete in Year 4.
I hope you all find this information useful, but if you have any concerns or questions, don't hesitate to ask, either via the class email (ghume@wymeswold.leics.sch.uk) or in person at the school gates.
Thank you all,
Mr. Hume
