Children's Music Journey - 26 May 2010

We were contacted several months ago by 'Musical Journey' to invite us to trial a new concept in the teaching of music. It consists of midi keyboards linked up to school computers, providing the children with a huge range of activities and lessons to participate in to further enhance the music tuition at our school.
Class 2 are now having weekly lessons using the Children's Music Journey and are completely absorbed in it. They visit 'Mr Beethoven' in the lesson room interactively to learn about new musical concepts each week, which they then follow up with 'Miss Melody' in the practice room before moving onto musical games and being creative in the improvisation room.
Some of class 4 have been experiencing the Concert Master tool which allows several children to play an ensemble piece together, each playing a part which is carefully selected to match their ability. The parts played by each child are then heard through the speaker system in the classroom, allowing an orchestra style sound to be heard as they play together. We can even choose which instrument we want their keyboard to sound like!
We will be showcasing our new technology on June 21st at an afternoon for headteachers, music specialists and governors in our area. We are very proud of being the first school in Europe to be able to utilise such a wonderful musical resource, and we are looking forward to seeing the results over the coming weeks as the children progress further.

If you would like to know more please contact Mrs Rachel Evans, Music Coordinator at the school.
