Celebration of Science Assemblies...

Well done to Brooke for kicking off our Celebration of Science Assemblies this year on Friday 6th October. She was a star and demonstrated chromatography to the whole school. Arthur was our second Science Assembly volunteer. He demonstrated an electromagnet. Harriet and Imogen conducted our third Science Assembly, demonstrating how polymers work. This week Edward was our scientist in assembly. He demonstrated gravity at work. Thank you to Edward for this weeks science assembly, all about osmosis and strawberries! Well done Effie. This week we were shown how carbon dioxide can cause an object to fly through the air! Lucianne conducted our Science experiment this week. She demonstrated how cerebrospinal fluid protects our brain. Our next Scientist was Rafi, who demonstrated different types of paper aeroplanes and tested which style flew the furthest. Our final science assembly of the term was conducted by Benjamin and Thomas. They demonstrated the reaction between a base (bicarbonate) and an acid (vinegar). This term was kicked off by Edward, who demonstrated gravity. Imogen and Harriet then showed us how to detect iron in our cereals! (Yuck!!) Next Georgia showed us how carbon dioxide bubbles in fizzy pop makes chocolate drops bob up and down in the glass of lemonade. Well done to all of our budding scientists this year. Don't forget to put your name down in September if you would like to have a go!

Science Week Activities

Science and Engineering Week is 11th - 15th March 2019. This year we will be celebrating this a little later in the year. This year's theme will be 'Journeys'. A timetable of events will be available soon. WATCH THIS SPACE!

Thanks to all the staff, parents and volunteers that helped make last year's science week a huge success!

Science Week 2018
Our annual Science Week started on Monday  with a whole school assembly led by Severn Trent Water on drains and waste water. Later that day, classes 5 and 6 took part in Severn Trent Water Workshops, looking at waste water in more detail. On Tuesday, we had a whole school science experiment day! Each class visited every teacher in their key stage, to take part science experiments. The children were able to experience three different experiments throughout the day, including making bath bombs, lemonade, bubble experiment and crisp tasting to mention a few. On Wednesday we had some parent visitors who ran workshops with the children. The workshops included one about robotics,  dry ice and bubbles, chemical reactions in bath bombs and DNA extraction! To finish the week off, on Friday the children will take part in 'The School Food Showdown' which is a little bit like 'Ready, Steady, Cook'. The Red Chilli team will compete against the Green Peas team to produce a balanced healthy meal in just 15 minutes. The children will also learn about healthy eating and why it is so important. Then Friday afternoon it is the school challenge session, where the children work in their house groups to design and build a bridge out of 50 straws and tape only. The bridges will then be tested to see how much weight they could hold using 2p coins.
